Advancing Recovery for Special Operations Warriors with Traumatic Brain Injury

THE PROBLEM

brain new (1)

Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) remain one of the most persistent and complex challenges facing the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community.

shield new (1)

These are the top 1 percent of warfighters who are currently underserved by conventional care.

mind new (1)

Many operators continue to experience long-term cognitive, neurological, and functional effects, often without satisfactory resolution through conventional care pathways.

growth new (1)

At the same time, emerging treatment approaches, including stem cell therapy, are showing promising early signals but lack the structured data required for broader institutional adoption.

THE OPPORTUNITY

While anecdotal reports and early experiences suggest potential benefits, adoption within the VA and Department of Defense depends on:

  • Demonstrated safety
  • Better understanding of dosing
  • Measurable, longitudinal outcomes

This is about generating the clinical evidence needed to change policy.

OUR APPROACH: THE 30 OPERATOR INITIATIVE

Project R3con is working to support a cohort of 20 to 30 Special Operations veterans in 2026 through:

Access to stem cell therapy

Travel and care coordination

One year of structured follow-up and monitoring

COST BREAKDOWN

$5,000

Supports treatment access for one operator

$10,000

Supports a full continuum of care, including:

•Treatment
• Travel
• Care coordination
• 12-month follow-up and monitoring

We invite organizations to join the Operator R3covery Alliance, a partner network directly supporting this initiative.

Partners are not only enabling access to care, but also helping contribute to the data and understanding needed to evaluate this treatment approach more rigorously.
